Obtaining professional navigation documents at the Navigation Counter

Summary

This procedure concerns the obtaining of professional navigation documents from the Navigation Counter (technical certificates for vessels, professional qualifications in inland navigation and certificates of access to the profession of transporter of goods by inland waterways).

The Walloon Region is responsible for professional navigation. "Professional navigation" is taken to mean navigation allowing the transport of goods as well as the transport of more than 12 passengers.

To be able to transport goods or more than 12 passengers, a transport company must ensure that the vessel(s) used has/have the necessary technical certificates and that the personnel on board the vessel(s) have professional qualifications in accordance with the manning rules. In addition, a certificate is required if the company wants to enter the inland waterway transport market. These documents can be requested from the Navigation Counter.
