Obtain a certificate of good character

Summary

A certificate of good character (criminal record extract 596.1.8) is issued to any person wishing to own or work in an establishment that serves beverages (catering, snack bar, etc.), whether occasionally or permanently. This is a document certifying that the applicant is of good character and is therefore authorised to serve fermented and alcoholic beverages.

Procedure

To apply for a certificate of good character, the operator and the employee(s) must go with their identity card to the municipality where they are registered in the population register. If the business or establishment is operated by a company, the co-managers must also have a certificate of good character.

The available payment methods may differ depending on the municipality and may include cash, card, bank transfer, or electronic payment if the municipality has an e-counter.
