On July 7th, 2016, the Walloon Government adopted its second Walloon Sustainable Development Strategy.
This strategy aims to build a society that is more respectful of people and the environment. It is both a policy and an action document.
The strategy provides a framework to encourage sustainable development initiatives by all stakeholders - public and private - in Wallonia. It also includes around hundred measures that the Walloon Government is committed to implementing to accelerate the transition to sustainable development.
The development of this strategy was the subject of wide consultation. In addition to the advice of official and recognized advisory bodies, the draft text was submitted for popular consultation between February 23rd and May 1st, 2016.
The adoption of this strategy is underlying the implementation by Wallonia of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations in September 2015.
